For a small nation that once fought to save God and history from being hijacked by those with a totalitarian ideology, religious freedom is as important as any other freedom we enjoy. It has become evident that America does not practice this freedom well, and thus it is the responsibility of all Americans to put an end to this injustice by defending the value of religious freedom in the US.The US is governed by a Constitution, which explicitly guarantees freedom of religion. The First Amendment of the US Constitution states: 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.' Th us, the First Amendment is meant to guarantee all Americans the freedom to believe whatever they choose, no matter how much others may disapprove of them.For years, Christians in America have been persecuted for believing in the Bible, and their beliefs have actually made their lives and freedom of religion threatened. They have been forbidden from practicing their faith in many states and have had their freedom of religion invaded by pastors who forced them to affirm certain biblical principles, and churches that forced them to meet certain requirements to receive their tax exempt status.This may sound pretty absurd, but if it were not for the First Amendment, America would probably have nothing, and would have fallen under the tyranny of Christianity that was forced upon it. That is why the importance of religious freedom cannot be underestimated, and why the United States should protect it so it can remain strong.For decades, the US has been leading the world in human rights, and it is the US, after all, that defends the human rights of its citizens, especially those living under oppressive regimes. The importance of religious freedom cannot be overstated, as America was founded on it, and a failure to protect it would mean that the world would turn against the United States. That would mean a nuclear holocaust, and would result in mass extinction.Today, the importance of religious freedom is becoming more important, as the result of cases in court, through speeches and mass rallies, and through intense media coverage. For example, it was the lawyers who fought for the right of Christians to teach their faith in public schools that turned the tide, and paved the way for the importance of religious freedom in public education. It was also the government, in many cases, that went out of its way to make it easier for private schools to teach, and to teach these courses with better documentation.Private schools and religious institutions have become increasingl y popular, and with that, more students are requesting to be taught their faith, and on more types of subjects. Therefore, more people are recognizing the importance of religious freedom, and that they need to protect it.
