A Beginners Guide Tenses of Latin Verbs

A Beginner's Guide Tenses of Latin Verbs Latin is an inflected language  where the verbs include a lot of information about the sentence. Sometimes the verb is the only word in the sentence. Even without a noun or pronoun, a Latin verb can tell you who/what the subject is. It can also tell you the time frame, interval, or tense. When you parse a Latin verb, you deconstruct these and other facets of the Latin. When you parse a Latin verb, you list the following: Meaning/translationPersonNumberMoodVoice (active/passive)Tense/aspect Tense, as mentioned, refers to time. In Latin, there are 3 simple and 3 perfect tenses, a total of 6, and they come in both active and passive forms. Moods in Different Tenses The Indicative Mood is the most common and thats what this page is about. You need to make note of the mood when parsing a verb. Most statement sentences use the indicative. In English, we generally contrast indicative with conditional sentences, although English has the Latin moods (Indicative, Subjunctive*, and Imperative**). Present Tense The first of the simple tenses in the Indicative Mood is the present tense. The present tense in the Indicative Mood has both Active and Passive voices. The present tense shows action that is happening now. I walk - ambulo Latin Imperfect Tense The next tense is the imperfect, which conveys incompleted action in the past. Imperfect means incomplete or unfinished. When translating an imperfect verb, the simple past tense sometimes works. Other times, was plus an -ing ending on the verb or used to plus the verb will convey the incompleted past action. I was walking - ambulabam The imperfect tense in Latin is used for both continuous and habitual actions in the past. Latin Future Tense The third tense is the future tense. A verb in the future tense conveys an action that will happen in the future. The customary auxiliary verb denoting the future tense is will. He will walk - ambulabit The 1st person singular future ambulabo is translated I shall walk technically. Most people in the U.S., if not in the rest of the anglophone world, would say I will walk. The same is true of the 1st person plural ambulabimus: technically, its we shall walk, but in custom, its we will walk. In the second and third person, its just will without qualification. Latin Verb Endings Active Singular -o, -m-s-t Active Plural -mus-tis-nt Passive Singular -or, -r-ris-tur Passive Plural -mur-mini-ntur Perfect Active Endings Singular   -i-isti-it Plural -imus-istis-erunt (sometimes -ere) Past Tenses Past or perfected tenses are used for completed actions. There are 3 such tenses: Perfect,PluperfectFuture perfect. Latin (Past) Perfect Tense Generally simply called the perfect tense, this tense refers to an action that has been completed. Either a simple past tense ending (e.g., -ed) or the auxiliary verb have conveys the perfect tense. I walked - ambulavi You may also translate it: I have walked. Latin Pluperfect Tense A verb is in the pluperfect tense if it was completed prior to another. Usually the auxiliary verb had signifies a pluperfect verb. I had walked - ambulaveram Latin Future Perfect Tense Future perfect is used to convey an action that will have been completed prior to something else. Will have are the customary auxiliary verbs. I will have walked - ambulavero *  More advanced:  In the Subjunctive Mood, there are 4 tenses, both active and passive: Present,Imperfect,Perfect, andPluperfect. ** There is ordinarily one Latin tense in the Imperative Mood, with both active and passive forms.

Industrial Process Control Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Industrial Process Control - Lab Report Example The controllers were analyzed in relation to how effective they were in ensuring optimization in the functioning of the industrial processes. The general realization is that the On-Off controllers were the least effective and were only applicable in few systems, the proportional controllers were found to introduce instability in systems, while the integral and derivative controllers were found to stabilize the amplitude and stability of industrial systems. Introduction The best way to attain control of industrial processes is to ensure that effective and efficient controllers are incorporated in the processes. One major aspect of consideration according to Patrick (2009), is to ensure that the controller is able to keep the processes within optimal working conditions and to be able to employ a corrective feedback mechanism. Competitiveness of industrial processes depends on their efficiency which ensures that a higher output is registered using a lower input. The objective of the exp eriment is to conduct an analysis on various industrial controls and techniques used in modern industries. The controller that was analyzed was an electrical air heater simulator. The experiment used a combination of PT 326 Feedback process trainer and the PCS 327 process controller. The experiment was divided into four sections where the first section consisted of a two-step closed control loop with the power button being turned on and off with respect to temperature at given values. The second experiment concerned the proportional control where the ability of the controller to maintain optimal levels with variations in measurements was observed. The third experiment involved the introduction of an external stressor to the system and then observing the response of ths sytem to the external stressor. The fourth experiment involved the application of several fundamental changes that the system might experience and observing the stability and response of the system to the changes. Lit erature Review The understanding of industrial processes has always been the key factor driving the design for instruments meant to ensure control of the processes. Technological advancements have always aimed at designing control instruments that improve the efficiencies of industrial processes with minimal supervision from technicians. According to Dunn (2009), the basis to any industrial control process lies in the instrumentation. Dunn outlines that the most common industrial processes that are usually controlled are temperature, pressure, distance, and rate of flow. Current approaches have been aimed at designing automatic controllers with the capacity of controlling simultaneously the most of the variables if not all while at the same time ensuring efficiency. Dunn defines process control as the automatic process that involves the sensing of variations in the process against a pre-set value and then providing accurate feedback to the control for effective adjustments to be mad e (2009). Therefore, a process control should incorporate mechanisms and gadgets that allow it to sense variations, provide feedback and implement corrective measures. The most basic form of a control system can be found in the On-Off control system. The system works on a simple procedure where with respect to any variations with regard to the pre-set value the system will either shut on or off. The best example is the water heater system controller. When the temperature of the heater goes above a pre-set temperature the system

Engagement of Companies in CSR Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4750 words

Engagement of Companies in CSR - Essay Example This however does not deter companies from adopting CSR. This research has used Hart’s sustainability framework to analyze the steps that has been taken by Toyota to improve its sustainability standard. This has allowed the organization to improve its social accountability. There is a considerable debate among researchers regarding the reason for which companies engage in CSR activities. Some cite that profit may be one of the reasons for which companies engage in CSR and others argue that they use this to improve their social image in the public. The passage of time had witnessed the transformation of CSR as an integral part of the business strategy. The introduction of stakeholders in the CSR became important with major contribution from Peter Drucker. This idea was completely opposite to that introduced by a famous economist, Friedman, who held the notion that the sole emphasis of a business is on ways to improve the level of its profits. It is nowadays argued that CSR is a multi-dimensional concept that encompasses philanthropy, environmental sustainability, transparency and innovation (Kaptein and Tulder, 2003). Researchers have found that majority of the global giants are incorporating CSR based on multiple facets in order to improve organisation al profitability. This increased awareness among companies to incorporate CSR in their management.

Advertisements Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Advertisements - Essay Example Competition always threatens to reduce the amount of sales recorded by each product.Because of this, manufactures of various products or providers of various services are forced to engage in regular advertisements These adverts are meant to capture the attention of consumers and provoke them to purchase a certain product or use it. Advertising involves the repetition of the name or image of a product with the aim of associating it with particular qualities with the brand in the minds of the consumers. The â€Å"holidays are coming† is a Coca Cola advertisement which features a train composed of red delivery trucks bearing the Coca Cola name are beautified with Christmas lights (Coca Cola video). The train drives along a snowy landscape and as it passes, it causes everything on its path to light up and people at the sides watch as delivery lorries pass by. This advert uses holiday campaigns and excitement as its advertising strategies. This advert made people to be aware that th e celebration season is back once again and this goes hand in hand with drinking. This motivates consumers to start treating themselves with Coca Cola drinks. It also reminds them to purchase or save money for buying coca-cola drinks for Christmas celebrations. The Coca Cola Company had stopped using the train advert in 2001. However, it was brought back in 2007 because many consumers called the company’s information center saying that they considered the advert as a mark of the beginning of Christmas. Another advert advertising Coca Cola was a billboard with a big bottle that had seemingly bubbled out a group of fun making and cheerful people. The background of the space containing the fun-making people is very bright. The slogan for this advert is â€Å"Live on the coke side of life† and uses excitement as its strategy (Coca-Cola-Art par 1). The â€Å"Live on the coke side of life† advert calls for people to live on the positive side of life (Coca-Cola-Art par 1). The advert makes people to think that drinking coca cola will make them to be happy. It helps them to reflect their optimist moments of their lives (Coca-Cola-Art par 2). The campaign invites consumers to live life full of color, create their own positive reality, listen to their hearts and be spontaneous. The use of people who are happy and making fun presents coca-cola not only as a drink that refreshes and makes one exited but also, it energizes them and gives them the strength to move with vigor. Another Coca-Cola advert is â€Å"Always Coca-Cola† previously featuring on TV. The main marketing strategy used in this advert is brand positioning. This adverts used good sounds and music, and a large mixture of pictures of people enjoying Coca Cola. Each picture in the advert had its own slogan. The welcoming picture was a cute lady smiling at the audience and its slogan was â€Å"have a Coca Cola†. The second is that of two men feeling so refreshed and its slogan was â€Å"it sends thirst flying† and the third slogan was â€Å"thirst asks nothing more†. The fourth slogan was â€Å"delicious and refreshing† followed by â€Å"so refreshing so welcome, everywhere† and the final is â€Å"what I want is Coke† and its picture featured a cure lady reaching out for a bottle of coke. All throughout the advert, there was a nice Coca Cola song that repetitively used the words â€Å"always Coca Cola.† The use of sounds and music helps to achieve effective marketing in that it makes people feel good to be associated with the product being advertised. The mixture good music and pictures creates in the consumers an emotional ambience that draws them to the marketing campaign and makes them feel good to have the product. The slogans â€Å"it sends thirst flying† and â€Å"thirst asks nothing more† makes consumers to perceive Coca Cola as the best solution to thirst and this will always prompt them to g et themselves of a bottle or can of Coca Cola whenever they are thirsty. In this way, the position of the brand in the soft

Speed control of dc motor using pll

Speed control of dc motor using pll INTRODUCTION: Feasibility Study, for final year project, is to establish whether the project is technically or financially feasible. The aim for the report is to ascertain an understanding between the student and the supervisor on the title of the project. It also requires establishing an understanding on the matter of aims and objectives. Such understanding is vital for the success of the project. The project work, that is to be undertaken, should be well planned so as to oversee the problems that lay ahead. Thus, the report delivers some insight into the planning phase. It gives aims and objectives for the project and explains various stages of work which will be involved. It further gives out a time plan that would direct the project itself through out the year. Such a planning would ensure the success of the project. Hence, the documentation of such a planning gives Feasibility Study. AIMS: Use the technique of Phase Locked based speed estimator to control the speed of a DC motor. To create the overall system with, A Phase Locked Loop (PLL) for the speed feedback. A Phase Detection Logic that would compare the user speed (set point/frequency) to the motors actual speed. A method for detection of the speed of the DC motor. OBJECTIVES: A firm grip of theory on the Phase Locked Loop would clear all the concepts of such a technique and its industrial uses. To devise a ‘Closed Loop Control System that would enable the user to control the speed of the DC motor. It should be based on frequency domain design techniques (bode diagrams). Detail work on the logic for Phase Detector or Synthesizer. Research on how the Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) works. To use a suitable optical sensor that senses and returns the speed of the DC motor. The logic behind the signals, to and from the sensor, to be calculated. Using Mat-lab for devising the transfer function and Tina for the circuit of the system. Designing the hardware for the system. TOPIC OVERVIEW: A Phase Lock Loop (PLL) synchronizes an output signal with a reference or input signal in frequency as well as in phase.Phase Locked Loop is used in various communication networks to chuck out noise from various signals. Here it is used to control the speed of a DC motor. This is because PLL has a capability to control the manner in which the phase of the Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) follows a changing reference phase. In other words it can be said that the designer can make the loop to follow quickly or sluggishly to the original input signal. This characteristic would enable users to control the speed of the DC motor. WORK STAGES: Literature Search A brief research, comprising of study related to Phase Locked Loop and Control System such as closed loop system, was conducted to facilitate in writing the feasibility report. Extensive study in the mentioned fields must be obtained before the practical work is started. Research would be required to deal with the prospect of working out the components for the PLL Fig 2. Comprehensive research would also be required to create and build the circuits for the components in Fig1. Phase detection logic have to be devised that would require the time. Study related to transfer functions, of an order, that uses frequency domain should be done. Further study for the Bode diagrams would be needed. Simulink for the Mat-Lab and Tina would require some attention as they are the primary tool for testing. A research in optical sensors would be likely and the transfer of data, to and from the sensor, would need investigation. The speed of the motor and what is given by the user can be represented on a screen. An insight into it would be an option. The equipments provided, like PLL IC and VCO Unit, would require thorough study. Block Diagram Design Protocol Design This phase of the work will be based on Mat-lab and Tina. The experiment would be simulation of the transfer function. Once the theory for the transfer function is completed, the derived function is written in Mat-lab and the corresponding bode graphs are investigated. These graphs would give a comprehensive illustration of the relevant components in the system. In other words it can be presumed, for the mat-lab simulation, that it would provide every bit of detailed information before the real circuit is built and the motor is accelerated. Pseudo-Code Pseudo-Code is a program code unrelated to the hardware of a particular computer and requiring conversion to the code used by the computer before the program can be used. This area of work deals with what is called extensive programming. The project would not require such level of programming. It would only require the simulation for the transfer function via using Mat-lab. Hence learning the software would be crucial for the success of the project. CAPITAL RESOURCES: The total budget allocation to the project is  £ 50. The equipment used within the project are given to be, Phase Locked Loop (PLL) IC. Op-amps ICs VCO Unit and Counter Usual lab equipment Software Mat-Lab 7.0 ( Simulate the transfer function of the control system) Tina 6.02 (For designing and testing the circuits) PROJECT TIME PLAN REFERENCES: http://dictionary.reference.com/ for definitions http://hem.passagen.se/communication/fm_pll_vco.html an insight for the VCO unit and PLL unit. The Meaning of Community :: Definition Essays Community

The Meaning of Community Community is defined in two different ways. The Universal English Dictionary describes a community as 'a society or body of persons living in the same place, having the same rights, privileges, and interests, and acknowledging the same laws.' Another definition by the Oxford English Dictionary describes it as 'common character or commonness.' Even though these are different ways to describe this word, their meanings are quite similar and are used greatly in their own ways with everyday life. Looking at the definitions and comparing it to how it is used in everyday life and conversation, there is not much of a difference between them. People use the word ?community? to describe the area where they live and what they can and cannot do in their community. The rules, regulations, and privileges are the same in their community just as described in the definitions. After reviewing what the word actually means, a main thing that sticks out would have to be that a community of people has "rules and privileges that must be followed and obeyed by everyone" (Merriam-Webster). It is almost as if it has its own little ?government? that sets standards and regulations for the people to follow. However, something that may have already been known would be the description of common character or commonness. A community has to have these things in order for peace and happiness to survive. Projects and readings for the class help with the understanding of a community. Working on the project is almost like working in a community with the rules and deadlines that must be followed and done properly. There have been readings about people working on, or helping with, communities if it needs help on certain issues. Political Philosophy and Thomas Hobbes Essay

The Enlightenment, also named the Age of reason, was an era for the period of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The term â€Å"Enlightenment† also specifically talks about a rational movement. Moreover, this movement provided a basis for the American and French Revolutions. During this period, philosophers started to realize that by using reason they can find answers to their questions and solutions to their problems. Enlightenment philosophers believed that all human beings should have freedom of religion and speech. Furthermore, they wanted to have a government of their own and a right to vote. John Locke and Thomas Hobbes were two very important philosophical thinkers of their time. John Locke was a prominent thinker from England, and Thomas Hobbes is perhaps the most complete materialist philosopher of the 17th century. John Locke believed that people are good, and they should have natural rights such as â€Å"life, liberty, and property† but Thomas Hobbs main focus was how human beings can live together in peace and evade the danger and fear of civil war. John Locke (1634-1704) was one of the most significant and powerful philosophers during the Enlightenment era. Both the French Enlightenment and Founding Fathers of the American Revolution drew on his thoughts. John Locke suggested that the human mind was a tabula rasa (blank slate). There were no â€Å"innate ideas† known from birth by all people and society forms people’s mind. Since all people share the same undeveloped usual features, people are all equal and they determine their liberty. Locke said all human beings are equal expect women and Negroes because they are closer to the state of nature therefore they are less civilized and this led to the American Revolution. Locke’s most important work of political philosophy was the Two Treatises on Government. He argued that the power of the king is derived from the people, each person has a right to hold property, and if ruler takes this property from people without their own permission, people can depose and resist him. . Thomas Hobbes is another philosopher in 17th century who argued that people were naturally wicked and could not be trusted to govern. Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) was born in London. He finished his college education at Oxford University in England, where he studied classics. Hobbes was English philosopher, scientist, and historian, best known for his political philosophy, especially as expressed in his masterpiece Leviathan. In his boos he described the â€Å"state of nature† where all persons were naturally equal. He said that people are frightened of violent death, and every single human on the planet has a right to protect him/herself in any way possible. He assumed that it’s in people’s best interest to avoid war. Moreover, he believed that life in the state of nature is â€Å"solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. † Although John Locke and Thomas Hobbes do have some similarities, they have different opinions about most of their political arguments. Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were two of the great political theorists of their time. Both created great philosophical texts that help to describe their opinions about man’s state of nature in addition to the role of government in man’s life. Both of them believed in individualism. Two years after the end of the English Civil War, Thomas Hobbes published Leviathan. He believed people had a good personality, if they were left to their own plans, life would become â€Å"a solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. † He said if people give some of their freedom, they can have a harmless life. He believed people are always in competition with each other for the best food, shelter, money, and so on. Hobbes supposed the best way to protect citizens would be to have a sovereign that is threatening and supreme. . Locke’s view of the state of nature says that humans have limits as to what people should or should not do. In contrast to Hobbes, Locke believed that humans are generally nice to one another, and we will not bother one another. Therefore, in Locke’s state of nature, humans are peaceful. Locke believed that people had the basic principles needed for a civilized society, so they were allowed to have natural rights such as life, liberty, and property. Locke believed rather than each person being equally at risk of death, each person was equally free and sovereign. The Enlightenment was an era of free thinking and individualism. Different philosophers had enormous role in this era. Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were philosophers from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Both philosophers had very strong views on freedom and how a country should be governed. Hobbes had more of a negative view on freedom while Locke’s opinions are more positive. How to Get Learning Accommodations at School

How to Get Learning Accommodations at School Some students struggle in school and need more support than is typically found in the traditional classroom, but that extra support isnt always easy to come by. For college students, typically the institution will require that the student provide documentation and request accommodations in a timely manner, and most will have the resources available to meet the students needs. However, the same isnt always true at secondary schools or middle/elementary schools. For schools who dont have robust academic support programs, students may be  forced into special education classrooms or they may be required to stumble along without accommodations in the traditional classroom.   However, there are options for students struggling in school, and one of those options is a private school. Unlike public schools, parochial and private schools do not have to grant students with learning disabilities accommodations. This ruling falls under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act  and is a direct result of the fact that private schools dont receive public funding. These private schools also have a pass when it comes to the need to follow the regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), which states that public schools must grant students with disabilities a free appropriate public education. In addition, unlike public schools, private schools do not offer students with disabilities IEPs, or Individual Educational Plans. Private Schools: Varying Resources and Accommodations Because they do not have to adhere to these federal laws governing the education of students with disabilities, private schools vary in the support they grant to students with learning and other disabilities. While years ago, private schools often said that they did not accept students with learning issues, today, most schools accept students who have diagnosed learning issues, such as dyslexia and ADHD, and other issues such as autistic spectrum disorder,  recognizing that these issues are actually common, even among very bright students. There are even a number of private schools who cater to the needs of students with learning differences. Some private schools for learning differences were founded specifically for students whose learning challenges  dont allow them to enter the mainstream classroom. The goal is often to support students and teach them to understand their issues and develop coping mechanisms that allow them to enter the mainstream classroom, but some students remain in these specialized schools for their entire high school careers.   Dedicated Learning Specialists In addition, many private schools have psychologists and learning specialists on staff who can help students with learning issues organize their work and refine their study skills.  As such, a number of mainstream private schools even offer academic support program, ranging from basic tutoring to more comprehensive academic support curriculums that provide students with a personal educational expert to help them better learn how they learn and understand the challenges they have. While tutoring is common, some schools go beyond that and offer organizational structure, time management skill development, study tips, and even provide advice on working with teachers, classmates and handling workloads.   Private schools also may be able to grant accommodations to help students in school, including the following: extra time on testsuse of a computer or tablet for writing in-class essays and assignmentshelp from a learning specialist to learn how to prepare for tests, study, organize study materialsuse of a private room for testing or work If youre thinking of private school and either know or suspect that your child may need extra assistances, consider these steps you might pursue to determine if the school can meet your childs needs: Get Started with Professional Evaluations If you havent already, make sure to have your child evaluated by a licensed professional. You may be able to have the evaluation conducted by the local school board, or you may ask your private school for the names of private evaluators. The evaluation should document the nature of your childs disabilities and the required or suggested accommodations. Remember, that while private schools arent required to grant accommodations, many offer basic, reasonable accommodations, such as extended time on tests, for students with documented learning issues. Meet with Professionals at the School before you apply Yes, even if youre just applying to the school, you can request meetings with the academic specialists at the school. Assuming you have the testing results available, you may set up appointments. You would likely coordinate these meetings through the admission office, and they can often be combined with a school visit or sometimes even an Open House, if you provide advance notice. This allows both you and the school to assess whether or not your childs needs can be properly met by the school. Meet with Professionals at the School after youre accepted Once youre accepted, you should schedule a time to meet with your childs teachers and learning specialist or psychologist to begin developing a plan for success. You can discuss the results of the evaluation, the proper accommodations for your child and what this means in terms of your childs schedule. Here are more strategies about how to advocate for your child with learning issues. Article edited by Stacy Jagodowski.

20 Rules About Subject-Verb Agreement

20 Rules About Subject-Verb Agreement 20 Rules About Subject-Verb Agreement 20 Rules About Subject-Verb Agreement By Mark Nichol Is, or are? Go, or goes? Whether a verb is singular or plural depends on any one of a complicated set of factors. Here is a roster of rules for subject-verb agreement (or â€Å"Here are some rules . . .†): 1. Use verbs that agree with a subject, not with a noun that is part of a modifying phrase or clause between verb and subject: â€Å"The pot of eggs is boiling on the stove.† 2. Use singular or plural verbs that agree with the subject, not with the complement of the subject: â€Å"My favorite type of movie is comedies,† but â€Å"Comedies are my favorite type of movie.† 3. Use singular verbs with singular indefinite pronouns each, the â€Å"-bodies,† â€Å"-ones,† and â€Å"-things† (anybody, everyone, nothing), and the like: â€Å"Neither is correct.† (And, just as in rule number 1, the presence of a modifier is irrelevant: â€Å"Neither of them is correct.†) 4. Use plural verbs with plural indefinite pronouns: â€Å"Many outcomes are possible.† 5. Use singular verbs with uncountable nouns that follow an indefinite pronoun: â€Å"All the paint is dried up.† 6. Use plural verbs with countable nouns that follow an indefinite pronoun: â€Å"All the nails are spilled on the floor.† 7. Use plural verbs with compound subjects that include and: â€Å"The dog and the cat are outside.† 8. Use plural verbs or singular verbs, depending on the form of the noun nearest the verb, with compound subjects that include nor or or: â€Å"Either the dog or the cats are responsible for the mess.† (â€Å"Either the cats or the dog is responsible for the mess† is also technically correct but is awkward.) 9. Use singular verbs with inverted subjects that include singular nouns: â€Å"Why is my hat outside in the rain?† 10. Use plural verbs with inverted subjects (those beginning with the expletive there rather than the actual subject) that include plural nouns: â€Å"There are several hats outside in the rain.† 11. Use singular or plural verbs with collective nouns depending on meaning: â€Å"His staff is assembled,† but â€Å"Staff are asked to go to the conference room immediately.† (In the first sentence, the emphasis is on the body of employees; in the second sentence, the focus is on compliance by each individual in the body of employees.) 12. Use singular verbs for designations of entities, such as nations or organizations, or compositions, such as books or films: â€Å"The United Nations is headquartered in New York.† 13. Use singular verbs for subjects plural in form but singular in meaning: â€Å"Physics is my favorite subject.† 14. Use singular or plural verbs for subjects plural in form but plural or singular in meaning depending on the context: â€Å"The economics of the situation are complicated,† but â€Å"Economics is a complicated topic.† 15. Use plural verbs for subjects plural in form and meaning: â€Å"The tweezers are in the cupboard.† 16. Use plural verbs in constructions of the form â€Å"one of those (blank) who . . .†: â€Å"I am one of those eccentrics who do not tweet.† 17. Use singular verbs in constructions of the form â€Å"the only one of those (blank) who . . .†: â€Å"I am the only one of my friends who does not tweet.† 18. Use singular verbs in constructions of the form â€Å"the number of (blank) . . .†: â€Å"The number of people here boggles the mind.† 19. Use plural verbs in constructions of the form â€Å"a number of (blank) . . .†: â€Å"A number of people here disagree.† 20. Use singular verbs in construction of the forms â€Å"every (blank) . . .† and â€Å"many a (blank) . . .†: â€Å"Every good boy does fine†; â€Å"Many a true word is spoken in jest.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 47

Assignment Example While Gorbachev initiated a series of reforms that theoretically moved it away from Marxism to neo capitalism without compromising the basic principles and ideology of Politburo, he was not able to implement them across the federation of socialist states (Brown, 1996). The inability of Gorbachev to implement the reforms and restructure the system resulted in dissatisfaction and unrest, ultimately leading to the disintegration of Soviet Union. Another important factor was that the unification of Germany in 1990 signaled the onset of new sovereign rights and reorientation and development of new equations among the states conforming to leftists’ ideologies and political leanings. This was a major element that provided the popular leaders like Yeltsin with alternatives to woo the public who were disillusioned with the Gorbachev’s hardliner’s policies. There was also huge political unrest across the federation states because they had no representation in the Soviet Union Politburo with the ouster of Shcherbitsky, a Ukrainian in 1989. Hence, these can be considered important factors that contributed to the breakup of the Soviet
